My Birthday Week

This time last week I spent the last day of my 20’s in a car stuffed to bursting with kids, dogs, food, drink and plenty of warm clothes. To celebrate my 30th birthday Sean booked for us to spend a week in a cute little barn conversion on a farm in Flamborough with the monsters, my mum and sister. Incase you’re not up on British coastal towns Flamborough is a beautiful place just north of Bridlington, Yorkshire. We were really lucky with our cottage, it was literally a few minutes walk from the edge of the cliff, with amazing views every way you turned.

Now I’m no twitcher but the wildlife was impressive. A few miles away from where we stayed is an RSPB centre which is renowned for its seabirds. We saw hundreds of nesting Gannets, Guillemots and Kittiwakes, as well as several varieties of Gull. The monsters had great fun using binoculars to spot the different birds.

The weather was on our side, bright but pretty windy so we managed to a few local spots.

While we were investigating the caves at north Landing we were lucky enough to spot a pair of Puffins who had set up home in the side of the Cliff, unfortunately I couldn’t get a good photo but I was so excited to have actually seen them!

On my Birthday I was a very spoilt girl. I was woken (super early) by the monsters shouting “Happy Birthday!!” And given a big pile of presents to open. Sean and the monsters gave me some new Hunter wellies I’ve had my eye on.

Seriously how cool is that bright pink stripe?! I also got a Nike fuelband to help me get my butt in shape and a remote for my DSLR camera. I have to admit the boys did well, I’ve been dropping hints for a while and they got every one. Thank you boys!

My little sister Frankie did a great job of spoiling me too. She secretly got the monsters to write their names and had it made into a silver bracelet.

She also spotted a few vintage items which she new I would love.

Some sewing pins and this book.

Obviously this book was made just for me! My sister found this book by chance for sale on Etsy and just had to get it for me, what’s freaky is I had seen the very same book on Etsy a few weeks ago and considered buying it for myself!

The last present I had to open was from my mum and dad.

My very own bloody OVERLOCKER!!!! How spoilt am I?! I have the best family ever.

After the excitement of opening all my cards and presents we got ready and took a trip to Scarborough.

Chips, donuts and candy floss while walking along the sea wall all made turning 30 seem not so bad.

We finished the day with champagne and a Hello Kitty cake made by my mum.

All in all turning 30 wasn’t anywhere near as scary as I thought it would be. Oh and you’ll be really pleased to know that since turning 30 I really haven’t grown up. Phew!

Another Year Closer To The Big 3 0

Last Friday was my birthday, I turned 29. Now to some of you that might not be a big deal, 29 may have passed you by without a second thought but to me it was a big deal, a very big deal. After 29 comes 30, you know the big 3 0. To me 30 is the age you become a grown up, I don’t know why, there’s no logical reasoning, but to me 30 = ADULT.

There are a few milestones in your life that people think make you an adult and to be honest I’ve hit a few of them

– Own my own home
– Married
– Become a parent

I somehow managed to hit all these milestones and still not be an adult and to be honest I enjoy not being adult. So turning 29 felt like the last birthday I had to celebrate before its time to grow up.

Thankfully my hubby understands my crazy way of thinking and made sure I had an amazing birthday. Friday we had a chilled out day, we went to the garden centre and got loads of seeds for the allotment (I’ll give you a proper update on that soon!), then my mum, dad and sister came for dinner.

Sean cooked us a lovely curry and even made me this amazing cake!

I got lots of great gifts from friends and family too.

This hamper is screaming out for a matching polka dot picnic blanket don’t you think?

Saturday was the best bit of all. My birthday present from Sean and the monsters was a weekend break at the spa!! Me, my sister, mum and the rest of The Ladies Wot Stitch (my sewing group) spent the weekend at Hempstead House Hotel. We all had such a relaxing weekend, we had massages, chilled in the pool and ate far too much delicious food.

I would definitely recommend it and will definitely definitely be going back as soon as I can think of a good excuse to escape again!

I haven’t forgotten you…….Honest!

I know, I know I’ve been slacking in the blog department lately, it’s been busy around here but I know that’s no excuse so I’m sorry.

Since I last posted the monsters seem to have really grown up, Monster no2 has decided he wants to potty train, so all he seems to say is “wee wee, wee wee mummy!” he quickly worked out that to avoid bedtime or the naughty corner all he has to do is shout the W word and whip off his trousers! Having said that he is doing really well, even waking up in the night a few times to go on the toilet. Monster no1 is rapidly growing up, it’s his first day at school tomorrow, only mornings to start, he is so excited and I am too…..it’s just….he seems so grown up but he’s still my baby. It’s going to feel strange without him at home once he goes full days.

This week we’ve celebrated my mum and Sean’s birthdays. My poor mum had to have some nasty injections at the hospital on her birthday, we had a quiet afternoon together so she could open her pressies. She has an unhealthy obsession with Marmite so I made her a Marmite Hamper

And this Snoopy make-up bag.

Oh no wait, yup that’s right, I somehow managed to delete the photo of said make-up bag but I’m sure you can imagine what it looks like (I’m a complete muppet and will include a new photo on my next post).

Months ago I was doing a bit of fabric shopping on Etsy (as you do) and came across this fabric from here, my mum has loved Snoopy since she was a kid and you don’t see much of it in the UK anymore so I ordered it and put it away ready for her birthday. I love the comic strip look, the fabric was lovely to sew and the service was great. I hope she likes it as much as I do.

This year I got the hubster proper boy presents (with help from the monsters). I got him a red stripy sweatshirt from John Lewis (I do plan on stealing this after a month or two), monster no1 chose him some Star Wars Lego which they sat and made at breakfast and monster no2 got Daddy some Xbox games (which he is busy playing now). We spent today at Farming World which is great for the kids, lots of farm animals, birds of prey, outdoor and indoor play areas. We all enjoyed it (especially the Pillows), although my back is suffering now!

As well as all this I have had a few orders to complete and have designed a new fold over clutch which I’ve listed in my Etsy shop. This will be available in more prints soon but feel free to contact me if you would like one in a particular colour way or print.

A good week all round

You best get comfy, I have a lot to talk (well write) about today. I’ve had a lot going on the past week, don’t you love it when that happens, lots of little things to get excited about and sometimes big things too. I’m hoping the rest of the summer holidays will be as busy, I need to keep the monsters occupied.

Anyway back to my week. I had an order for some bandana bibs, so off to one of my favourite fabric shops I went, Hometown in Rochester, Kent. I love it in Hometown, the staff are always friendly and really helpful, they don’t mind the monsters “helping” me shop either so I get more time to rummage through the bolts! I haven’t been in for a while so all the new fabrics were a nice surprise, I struggled to resist the urge to spend a fortune, I’m sure you can understand that 😉

My customer also wanted some Skull print which I found at Fabric Inspirations, I went for a great Kokka print.

I have had a few customers buy multiple bibs in an order, so I decided to trial a special offer of 5 bibs for the price of 4. I’ve been pleased with the response so will be adding it to my Etsy shop soon.

I finally received my exhibit numbers for the HOKH Maidstone Quilt Show, my quilts are numbers 29 Country Garden and 30 Go Fetch! If you are going give them a wave. It all seems real now, I guess I should pull my finger out and get them finished.

The monsters and I have been busy buying the last few bits for our camping trip which is coming up soon, they were so excited to get their sleeping bags, not sure how well they will sleep in them once we get away though. It’s the first time we have been so it should be interesting, 4 adults, 4 monsters and 3 dogs, it’s not going to be a quiet week.

By Friday with all the excitement I was knackered and knew we had a busy weekend ahead. I was just settling down to have a cheeky cider, watch the opening ceremony and finish making my lovely friend Sam’s birthday present (for the next day, I love a bit of pressure me) when the phone rang. I nearly didn’t answer but I’m so glad I did. It was a lovely lady called Louise ringing to tell me that an allotment was available if I wanted it. Of course I said yes! We are all so excited, living in a flat we don’t have much room to grow so the allotment will be great. We are sharing it with our neighbours, Lyn and I are off down there tomorrow to have a good look at our plot and start planning. Be warned I will be boring you to death with a new topic very soon, the highs and lows of fruit and veg Ha!

Saturday was a busy day, I had double booked us so it was a mad dash for Monster no1’s swimming lesson, a quick change then off to Sams for her youngests birthday, then on to my Great Aunts house for a lovely afternoon in the garden. The monsters had a great time riding round in Great Uncle Tims mini tractor and we all ate too much BBQ.

As you can see my Mum and cousin enjoyed the tractor as much as the monsters, if not more.

Next stop was to drop the dogs home then back to Sams for a few cheeky glasses of vino, a fashion show from Sam and a mammoth Nerf Gun battle (the adults not the monsters oops!). I had made Sam a skirt from some lovely Liberty print Jersey and a make up bag from a texty print I had in my stash.

Skirts

We all had a great time and as you can imagine we all slept well Saturday night. The monsters were shattered Sunday and were still recovering today.

Last little thing before I go, I just wanted to say thank you to the very talented Karen over at Blueberry Park. She very kindly sent me a bag of pretty scraps she didn’t need, so I will be using those for key fobs and cards. Make sure you check out her blog it’s a great read and look through her shop, Karen prints her own fabrics which are to die for.
